Reseller hosting is a commonly used but generic term which is applied to a few different brands of web hosting. The term does not really define what is being offered, but does describe the organization that is offering the service to you.

Reseller hosting is a commonly used but generic term which is applied to a few different brands of web hosting. The term does not really define what is being offered, but does describe the organization that is offering the service to you.

What a Reseller Host does is purchase a large account from a particular Web Host company and then sells off space on that account to clients. They basically serve the same purpose as a Web Host, but they can offer you space at a significantly lower cost and take care of the basic maintenance. This is a business model that is common with a couple of different types of companies, most usually web design companies that want to offer hosting as a bundle to their clients, start up web hosts, and also companies that are building a very large portfolio.

The main types of solutions offered by hosting resellers are dedicated, shared, or VPS (See part two). Clients are usually able to take advantage of more inexpensive Web Hosting, since Resellers usually get their Web Hosting at a cheaper cost. The one downside to all of this is that the Reseller Host is still a client of the hosting company from which they bought the space in the first place. When they offer more advanced hosting services they will usually have more technical support capabilities to match this, but if you run into a problem that they cannot solve with their tech support then they will have to elevate the problem to the larger hosting company which can take lots of time with all of the bureaucracies involved.

Someone may find Reseller Hosting most beneficial from a selling aspect, in order to expand their business to a sizable portfolio of websites. If they are not looking to venture into either one of these departments, they might wish to remain using shared hosting since it is a more commonly used brand of hosting and will therefore be the most useful for them.

But as of right now, Dave believes he is content with just one site, as he wants to maintain control of his website. His site is receiving a lot of visitors and he wants to change the site up a bit.
